Crowning Achievements
Dr, Peter Wiesel is in the business of creating smiles – literally - and he generally gets as many as he gives. The Linwood-based prosthodontist works on the more difficult cases in dentistry, repairing imperfect teeth due to trauma, decay or other problems.
Prosthodontics is one of the least known dental specialties. After they become dentists prosthodontist receive an extra three years of training in the restoration and the replacement of teeth,
"It's the most technical dental specialty but it’s the one that can provide the most dramatic results,” explained Wiesel between treatments in his office.
“Frequently prosthodontist work with other dental specialties such as periodontist, oral surgeon, orthodontist or dentist. In those cases, the prosthodontist, acts like the quarterback in leading the team treatment.”
Dr. Wiesel’s own office radiates calmness, with a muted blue reception area accented with Native American art and designs. The individual treatment rooms are immaculate and spacious and each patient gets his or her own TV to watch during treatment.
“It’s just one of the ways we help patients feel comfortable,” said Dr. Wiesel. “In many cases, patients come for a series of treatments, so we want to make it as enjoyable as possible. This is an ongoing relationship and we are building understanding and trust from the very first visit. We maintain good communication with our patients. We educate them so they can become active in treatment decisions.
Dr. Wiesel handles crowns, bridges, partials and full dentures, dental implants and porcelain veneers. He latterly changes smiles as he fills in missing spaces, straightens and aligns the teeth and makes them beautiful with bleaching, veneers, implants or caps.
Cosmetic bleaching is one of his specialties and he holds several patents in that area. E has formed his own company. Easy Bright, Inc. and has patented a kinder, gentler, non-peroxide bleaching agent using chlorine dioxide. The product launched in dental offices just a few months ago with commercial success and a consumer version for home use in the works.
“We’re doing a lot of exciting work here,” acknowledged Dr. Wiesel who related a success story. “I recently finished a cosmetic whitening procedure on a patient,” he said. “It just happened that she met someone in the advertising field. He noticed her pretty smile and hired her as a model. Now this is a grown woman with a grown family and she is starting her second career.”
“I also recently worked on a college graduate,” continued Dr. Wiesel. “He was ready to start his job at a prestigious company when he was sidelined by a car accident. It latterly derailed his career. Between broken and missing teeth and physical rehabilitation, he was not able to go to work. But we were able to restore his smile so that eventually, he entered the field with a different firm. And that was gratifying.”
Said Dr Wiesel, “The satisfaction that I get in that final smile is why I come to work each day.”
